Do free instant credit reports really work?

I know that a lot of people swear by them, but I do have to wonder if all of the hype surrounding free instant credit reports it is really worth it. I mean even without the sites that offer these reports and credit scores, you can still get a copy of your credit report, you just need to pay for it and then wait for it to come in the mail. But that’s not such a big deal, is it? I mean at least then you know the what you’re getting is a totally legitimate report and that your score is going to be very accurate.
