Still Confused

I was just recently reading an article on the cause of gout and I am still a little cloudy on what could cause it. I have been struggling a little bit with some of the symptoms and I wonder if there is something I can do on my own before I see a doctor. It sounds like I really need medication to bring down the symptoms that I have but I wish I knew more about this acid buildup that could be causing it. Is it a certain food that I am eating or is my body just prone to storing more of this acid than other people?
