The Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Is An option For The Excessively Obese

For those people who are extremely overweight laparoscopic weight loss surgery is not generally an option but one of the few exceptions to this rule is the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. This purely restrictive form of surgery can be very effective in cases of extreme obesity and involves the removal of the bulk of the stomach leaving behind a new vertical sleeve-like stomach which is about fifteen percent of the original stomach volume. The operation also leaves intact the original stomach opening into the intestines, together with its associated nerves, and this means that many of the complications seen in other form of restrictive surgery which create a new opening are avoided.
