Outdoor Planter

I have a specific design in mind when I created my backyard area. It took us a lot of years to get the landscaping just right and to be honest a lot of money and sweat went into it. I have a theme with all of the metal planters as well. I think that the metal goes great with the outdoors but I am wondering if there is something that I need to do to it to protect it from the elements. I do not want any rusting of our outdoor equipment and so far I have had to protect a few things so far.
