One of the most beautiful natural areas in Alabama is the Little River Canyon National Preserve. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of their favorite outdoors activities at the Preserve, including hiking, horseback riding, camping and rock climbing. An 11-mile long Scenic Drive along Route 176 provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to see the Little River Canyon Preserve. There are many overlook and picnic areas located along the drive, as well as plenty of areas to take photographs of spectacular views. The Backcountry area of the Little River Canyon National Preserve is where visitors embark on 4-wheel drive and ATV adventures. There are 23 miles of trails to explore in the Backcountry on horseback or with your all-terrain vehicle. Primitive camping is also available in the Preserve’s Backcountry. If you’d like a fun place to have a picnic and splash in the water, the Canyon Mouth Day Use Area is ideal. This shaded area is the perfect place to spend a summer’s day at Little River Canyon National Preserve.
